This setting establishes one of three different relationships between gray levels used by the Apple Scanner and the density of the original. The Graymap setting affects line art, halftone, and grayscale composition scans.
The range of densities in a continuous-tone image between black and white is virtually infinite. The Apple Scanner detects 16 levels of reflective density. The Graymap setting determines how these 16 gray levels are related to the range of densities in the original.
